Xbox 360 | Capcom bags Monster Hunter Freedom 3

Japanese publisher confirms fourth PSP release in cooperative action role-playing game franchise to see debut by end of the year; new regions, monsters among planned changes.

This year is shaping up to be a big one for Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise. The series is making its North American Wii debut with Monster Hunter Tri on April 20 and is expanding to the Japanese Xbox 360 this summer with Monster Hunter Frontier.

While Capcom is looking to bring the series to new platforms, the publisher today revealed that it's not yet done with its old (monster) hunting grounds. Capcom of Japan today announced that Monster Hunter Freedom 3 will see release "at the end of 2010." The publisher said it will be adding new enemies and regions to the game, as well as tweaking the series' Felyne AI comrade system.

Despite the name, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 will actually be the fourth installment of the game to see release on the PSP. In addition to the first two Monster Hunter Freedom games, Capcom created Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for the PSP. Released in March 2008, Unite went on to sell 3.5 million copies in Japan alone, making it the first PSP game to have done so, according to Capcom.
