DS | Warner Bros. setting up Montreal shop
Publisher's new Quebecois studio will focus on making games, 3D animation; head count to reach 300 by 2015.
Nearly a month after announcing it had acquired a majority stake in Batman: Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady Studios, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is once again expanding its game holdings. WBIE joined with Quebec to announce today that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has selected Montreal as the site of its newest development studio. The new development house is expected to generate 300 jobs in Montreal by 2015.
According to today's announcement, WB Games Montreal will focus on the creation of games and 3D animation, as well as house quality assurance and localization teams. WBIE's incentive package to set up shop in Montreal includes a $7.5 million investment from Investissement Quebec, an economic development company that operates to stimulate business growth in the Canadian province.
"With its creative workforce specialized in digital media and its renowned universities, Quebec is the perfect place to develop our new products and technologies," WBIE president Martin Tremblay said in a statement. "The Government of Quebec's tax credits and other incentives made Montreal the right location for our studio at this time. Montreal, with its wealth of talent and highly affordable operating costs, is a wonderful place to continue to expand our growth in gaming."
WBIE's Montreal studio will be headed up by Martin Carrier, who has previously served as Ubisoft Montreal's vice president of communications and corporate affairs. The publisher expects to announce the remainder of WB Games Montreal's management structure soon.
