PlayStation 3 | Codemasters sets up new innings for International Cricket
New cricket title to feature 360-degree movement control, camera angles; development duties being handled by new Aussie studio Trickstar Games.
Last year's Ashes Cricket 2009 received a lukewarm response from critics, but that hasn't stopped Codemasters from lining up at the crease again with a new game based on the gentleman's sport. The upcoming title--International Cricket 2010 (IC10)--will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 when it arrives in the spring (or autumn if you're in the Northern hemisphere) this year.
The reins of IC10 have been handed over to Trickstar Games, as previous developer Transmission Games suffered heavily during the global financial crisis last year and eventually landed in the hands of receivers. That's not to say that Trickstar doesn't have any experience under its belt, as a number of staff members from Transmission made the leap over to the new studio.
One of the biggest features in IC10 will be the action cam, which adds in new camera angles on top of the traditional broadcast views that the series has used in previous games. Additionally, IC10 will now support complete 360-degree control, which allows players to move in virtually any direction, according to developers.
New features aside, IC10 has licensed the official players from the England and Wales Cricket Board, as well as Cricket Australia, which means that the game will have the official players and clothing from those nations, as well as 21 stadiums. There's also a character editor that will let players create their own characters and put them into the cricketing squad.
Stay tuned to GameSpot AU for more details on International Cricket 2010 as it becomes available.
