PC | Mytheon fated for July 13 launch
Petroglyph settles pending litigation with UTV True Games, dates free-to-play online RPG's official PC release for this summer.
Shortly after Petroglyph announced its ambitious massively multiplayer real-time strategy title End of Nations would arrive in 2011, the Star Wars: Empire at War developer found itself staring down litigation concerning another of its online efforts. In May, UTV True Games filed suit against Petroglyph over Mytheon. According to the suit, Petroglyph failed to meet Mytheon's launch deadline after numerous extensions, prompting True Games to demand the game's source code. That request, however, was allegedly refused.
This week, that litigious struggle ended on a bright note, as Petroglyph and True Games announced that they had resolved their legal spat out of court. Further, the two companies announced a firm launch date for Mytheon, saying the online RPG will launch for the PC on July 13. Mytheon is currently undergoing an open beta testing phase, and those interested in signing up can do so through the game's official Web site.
While not technically a MMORPG, Mytheon allows players to team up online in a fantasy universe to engage a variety of mythological beasts. Though free to play, gamers can augment their experience in Mytheon through microtransactions. The game will initially offer three distinct classes of play. Each class wields their own line of "power stones," which can be used to cast spells and summon helpers, among other uses.
