DS | Scribblenauts sequel goes Super

DS | Scribblenauts sequel goes Super

Follow-up to 5th Cell's breakthrough DS game gets a name change reflecting the game's new adoption of adjectives.

The big new feature for the next installment of 5TH Cell's Scribblenauts is that players will now be able to modify the objects they summon with adjectives. So it's only appropriate that the name of the game gets an adjective to call its own.

5TH Cell today revealed the name of its anticipated DS sequel will be Super Scribblenauts, a less-than-humble moniker for a game with lofty ambitions. The original Scribblenauts asked players to guide a protagonist named Max through a variety of head-scratching levels in order to claim hard-to-get-to stars. To help with the puzzles, players could type in nouns and the game would materialize that object for the player to use.

For the sequel, 5TH Cell will be expanding its word-summoning formula in the new game with the addition of an adjective system. With adjectives, players can modify the color, size, elements, and behaviors of the summoned objects. Changes made to creatures or objects are cumulative, so players will be able to create plentiful variations on each noun.

Beyond Super Scribblenauts, 5TH Cell is actively engaged in working on a "pretty big" project for Xbox Live. The Bellevue, Washington-based development house had previously said that it intended to shift its development away from the DS and toward console development.
