Xbox 360 | WWII Call of Duty games get compilation - Retail Radar
Online stores taking preorders for The War Collection, an Xbox 360 box set of Call of Duty 2, 3, and World at War.
The Call of Duty series established itself with a series of games set in World War II, but it's unclear exactly when the franchise will be returning to the conflict. This year's installment of the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops, is set in a variety of Cold War-era conflicts, while the only other title on the horizon with a definite era attached is the Infinity Ward-developed Modern Warfare 3.
Gamers who can't wait for Call of Duty to once again return to the days of Axis and Allied forces will at least be able to relive the series' recent excursions into WWII, as online retailers GameStop and Amazon are now taking preorders for Call of Duty: The War Collection for the Xbox 360. Priced at $60, the three-game compilation includes the Xbox 360 launch title Call of Duty 2, the 2006 follow-up Call of Duty 3, and the franchise's most recent WWII shooter, Call of Duty: World at War. GameStop lists the compilation as releasing June 8, with Amazon setting a June 1 launch for the pack.
Activision is making a habit of repackaging and rereleasing entries in its military first-person shooter franchise. The 2007 package Call of Duty: Legacy offered PlayStation 2 gamers a chance to pick up the Finest Hour and Big Red One console spin-offs, while the previous year's Call of Duty War Chest on the PC included the original Call of Duty, its United Offensive expansion, and Call of Duty 2.
